Purpose: The Lighthouse
Baptist Church Missions Committee exists for the express
purpose of promoting a burden for Missions, supplying
information about missions to the church, and assisting
the Pastor in locating, qualifying, and accommodating
future LBC missionaries.
Position: This Committee will function
under the authority of the Pastor and the Director he
appoints. It is not a ministry of administration, but
rather a ministry of serving LBC in the area of Missions.
Description of this Ministry:
(Note: order of Priority) |
| 1. |
Promoting:
The Missions committee will have the sole responsibility
of educating and exciting the congregation about our
Missions Program. The extent of this responsibility
is only limited by imagination and diligence. Promotion
can come in various forms: Sunday School class projects,
Emphasis days, Missionary of the month, flyers, website
pages, email lists, tele-conferencing, bulletin board
displays, bulletin inserts, wall displays, special project
offerings (see PW first) etc., etc. |
| 2. |
Annual Missions Conference:
This conference will be the major project of the yearly
missions calendar. Our Annual missions conference will
run 3-5 days in the month of March of each year. The
Committee will be responsible for the following:
• A Conference Theme and Theme verse
• Schedule for the week (including daily routine
of missionaries)
• Housing and Meals of missionaries
• Any special program items (music, emphasis,
etc.)
• Visible promotion of the Conference (bulletin,
posters, etc.)
• Budget of the above items will be decided by
Pastor and Deacons
• Pastor will furnish the Keynote speaker and
missionaries |
| 3. |
Correspondence with Missionaries: |
| A. |
Writing / emailing our missionaries personally;
getting the congregation involved in "adopting"
a missionary to correspond with; Keeping the Missionaries
informed of life at LBC; etc.
* An interest in birthdays, anniversaries, etc. would
be excellent ! |
| B. |
Creatively Educating the Congregation on the lives and
ministries of our missionaries. * This is a long term
process that must be done skillfully and creatively. Unfortunately,
people would rather give than take a personal interest.
This is our challenge to overcome. Suggestions would be:
using S.S. classes to send special messages (one time
projects), having a "Missionary Mailbox" that
people would put letters in and we would mail; using the
website as a clearing house to mass distribute missions
letters. |
| 4. |
Filtering missionaries with the following
philosophy criteria: (Broad Strokes)
LBC presently has a Missionary Application. Every
candidate must complete this before being considered.
The committee will use this to evaluate based on the
following criteria. "O.K." candidates will
be passed on to Pastor for further consideration. Pastor
will give approval for Director to schedule the missionary
to come to present his work. Pastor and Deacons will
privately decide whether to bring missionary to the
congregation or not. |
| |
Criteria: |
| 1. |
As a rule, we want to support missionaries that are
with Baptist boards.
- Exceptions to this would be IPM, GFA, Ind. Faith Missions
or by individual consideration
|
| 2. |
As a rule, we want to support missionaries that are
with missions boards rather than from individual church
"boards". |
| 3. |
We will only support missionaries that agree with the
LBC Doctrinal Statement of Faith. |
| 4. |
As a rule, we want to support missionaries that are
directly involved in starting local churches. (church
planters) |
| 5. |
We want to investigate the following of each missionary
candidate:
a. Doctrinal Positions
b. Sending Board
c. Sending Church
d. Affiliations (colleges, organizations, etc.)
e. Local Church activity they were involved in at their
home church
f. Finances - (how much are they raising and why) |
